OK, nerds, I’ve got bad news: The order form for the Mahzor Lev Shalem bookplates is quite restrictive. Since announcing that I was gonna have a contest to determine what the bookplates would say, I’ve gotten some pretty good responses. Sadly, the order forms demands everything in the form of “in memory of” or “in appreciation of” such-and-such or whatever.
So unless one of you loony toons comes up with a way to be clever about this, I’m just gonna have to do it “in appreciation of my blog’s readers,” which is really a more masturbatory approach than I was hoping for.
How about — In appreciation of Beth-El, a shul I like in a movement I don’t?
In appreciation of davening
How about – “In memory of Conservative Judaism.”
That way, when people look back on these siddurim years from now, you’ll appear prescient.
I joke, of course. Too soon?
Following Larry’s lead, how about, “In appreciation of the warm welcome I have received from Beth El members.”
“In appreciation of the synagogue I cannot in good conscience join.”

Harold is kind in adding a note of derech eretz to my flippancy.
And Jesse’s flippancy is on track in reminding us that the moribund aspects of all the movements can escape the severe decree if they find ways to re-invent themselves. My own hope would call for JRF, URJ/HUC/CCAR, and USCJ/JTS/RA to be talking to one another in the process.
