Shabos Zmiros – Nina Simone sings Eretz Zavat Chalav Ud’vash

I lack any explanation for the existence of this video. It’s Nina Simone. Singing Eretz Zavat Chalav Ud’vash.

Shabat Shalom.

  2. This is on a couple of her albums (Folksy Nina and At the Village)–and there’s another song in Hebrew on At the Village as well: “Vaynikehu.”

    I’ve yet to discover why.

  3. And she knows what to do with a vellar fricative. Hm again.

  4. I am a BIG nina simone fan… and never heard either of these songs before. What a miraculous find!!

  5. Well, jewishscientist, I’m glad I could bring this to you attention, then!

  6. I came over here from jewschool to check out the old shabos zmiros posts, and I loved this.

One of the commenters at YouTube said she was friends with Shlomo Carlebach. I couldn’t find too much on this through Google, except that a musical about Carlebach apparently includes something about them meeting and him teaching her this song.

Anyway, if true, that would shed some light on how this came to be.
